FINAL FANTASY TACTICS VI
"A Hack like No other..."
Created and Produced by Cain Highwind (mog1138@yahoo.com)
Based on the game, "Final Fantasy Tactics" created by Hironobu Sakaguchi and Square

WHAT'S NEW:
----------
1.7 (A small but Necessary update)

-So why the long update? Well I haven't been able to get on my computer for the last few months (been really busy) I also ran into a small dead end (read the What's Left/Glitches section below for more details, as well as a couple of new things)

-Location's hacked and edited (basically when you go into a town it actually has a FFT name displayed at the top) Thanks to Sky Render for his patience with helping me on figure out the Location Pointers.

-Some Monster Stat Tweaks including Vargas, the Ipoohs and Magitek Armor.

-Finally got Cidolfas's name right (I kept mispelling it)

-2 New questions in FAQ

1.6

-Figured out how to make Gil with two spaces. Because of which the following things are fixed
GP on the menu screen now says Gil
GP Rain is Now Gil Toss

-Forgot to mention in the last release. The Lv based spells of Death, Holy, Muddle, and Flare have been changed. Like the FFT Math Skills, they cost no MP but targets both sides.

-Fixed a few typos (like Cidoflas instead of Cidofolas) as well as tweaked some lines in the game.

-Tweaked the Heal spell so that it costs no MP and heals Seizure, Poison, and Darkness like the Squire Ability of FFT of the same name

-I thought of renaming and redoing a couple of the summons. Kirin is now Ixion (from FFX) and he does a lightning attack that also casts dispel on all enemies. Stray is now Cait Sith (which is the original Japanese name anyway) which deals damage as well causing the confusion status. Renamed Terrato, Zolom, which is short for Midgard Zolom, the original Japanese name of the summon. And finally renamed Pallidor, Valefor (also based off of FFX)

-New Item Categories! On the item screen next to the right of the item, that text has now been hacked. For one thing it's not all caps anymore, and secondly everything is the same except Abilites have their own category now. The formerly known "Special" weapons (like Bone Club and Morning Star) use the Skean symbol (because at the moment I can't think or draw a symbol to represent these weapons) and finally Shadow's Skeans and Stars have all been merged into one category, "Ninja", and bear the Ninja Star Symbol.

-Created a new ability which replaces the Rename Card: Undead. This is because the Relic Ring which is needed for the ghosts on the phantom train was changed to Chantage and well they weren't very undead-like before I fixed it. (And who REALLY uses the Rename card anyway?)

-Stats for the Marshall and Magitek Armor have been tweaked down so they're a little easier now.

-Inserted some of Sky Render's "End of Fantasy" script (with permission) which is the script from the directly translated FFVI Japanese ROM, it's really good. From the intro to meeting Edgar, will be completely done in 2.0.

-Based on a suggestion given to me from Cidoflas, the patch is now an IPS file rather than an exe file.

1.5: Major Improvement!

-Edited text for battle (lowercase names now)

-Temporary edit for items and magic (hopefully the description editor will allow all items and magic to be edited as well as plenty of space to make descriptions)

-Locke's Capture has been changed to "Mug", Shock has been changed to "Seiken" (Holy Sword), and Cyan's Stunner Tech has been renamed "Shock!!" (because it does damage the same way Beowulf's Shock does in FFT) This has all been brought to you by Thingy (Thanks to JCT3000 at the the Zophar boards for pointing this out to me)

-Changed potions since I realized that Healing Items can only go up to 10 Hex (1-255) so now you truely are stuck with a FFT styled potion system.

-Also changed the message at the end of battle that you earn Gil and not GP (now if only I could figure out how to change it on the menu screen.

-Fixed a weird bug where spells in battle would have weird characters in the spaces (I think I got them all). Example: Fire (Music Note) 4

-I forgot to adjust Vanish so that it would'nt work on enemies in the first release, did that now for all you Vanish/Doom Cheaters ^_~

1.0b:

-First public release-All Dialog edited EXCEPT Battle Dialog, (look out for any possible grammar error). Characters now have alternate commands.

1.0(never released):

40% of dialog done, 100% enemy and item hacking done.

WHAT'S IN:
---------
-A completely renovated equipment, item, ability system based off of Final Fantasy Tactics.

-"Enhanced Dialog": New Dialog that was either created by me or added in that Square originally cut out. A fine example of this is at the beginning of the game where Kefka puts the Slave Crown on Terra. There's an extra line of dialog that Square cut out with Terra saying, "No get away from me!". Other dialog I made up simply to add a little more detail to the conversation, or just a little humor in a few hidden spots.

-Location Titles (The text that appears at the top of the screen when you enter an area)

-Renovated Names of Main Characters and NPCs / FF Tactics Cameos: First of all the character names are featured in lowercase (now in versions 1.5 and higher, the battle text). Secondly, some of the NPCs (Non Player Characters) have been given names of characters from FFT (Arvis=Olan, Draco=Delita, and many others.

-"Enhanced Battle System": Enemies have been hacked in the area of stats. They do have higher HP and Level. They also have higher evade rates based upon what kind of creature they are (Rats and Humans have really high evade rates, Behemoths and Dragons have high attack power but low Hit Rate and Evade). Enemies also give out double the experience, Magic Points and gil/GP. But the encounter rate for your party is dropped by half.

-Original Relics: In placement of relics such as "Offering" or the "Gem Box". Brand new relics have been put in, Keep a look out for these near the end of the game, they're named after some of the star characters of FFT.

-Czar Dragon and Collossus engageable: Think of these as the "Ruby and Emerald Fights of FFVI" they're completely optional but come with a nice bonus. Czar Dragon can be found in the Dinosaur forest near Gau's Father's House in the World of Ruin. Collossus can be found on the continent of the Southeast corner of the W.O.R map, where Thamesa is.

-Magic spells converted to FFT names (Life 3=Reraise, Pearl=Holy, etc)

-Other nifty surprises

Go to the Narshe Classroom for some more info as well as a laugh or too.

WHAT'S LEFT / WHAT'S NOT IN / GLITCHES:
---------------------------------------
-Script insertion has been put on hold. While working on it, the script, while coming out nicely, caused a major glitch where the game froze when you got to the world map. Sorry folks, until I can get around this dead end, the script will be roughly the same, and even inconsistent with all the new stuff (Like Narshe is Goland Coal City but you'll still see Locke saying, "Let's get to Narshe" in the game). I'm going to wait until Square's recently announced GBA port of FFT comes out (and thus, a ROM of it will be available). That way, it'll be a lot easier to extract the font among other things and copy it to the SNES ROM.

PLEASE DO NOT E-MAIL ME ABOUT THIS! (unless you can help of course ;)

-I've gotten several e-mails about a weird bug regarding "erased items". I'm sorry to say, that I really don't know what's going on here. It's probably a glitch with Lord J's editor, I'm going to bring it to his attention, and wait for his new version to come out.

-Will feature sprites, fonts and anything else possible from the upcoming Game Boy Advance version of Final Fantasy Tactics.

-I'm going to try and find a way to change the default window options of the game so that instead of the standard Blue Window, it could be a light tan color, like the windows in FF Tactics. And I have an idea, just how to do it. Expect to see it in the next update or two.

-Item/Magic Descriptions: Thingy only gives me so much room to squeeze the new text in, so expect to see more detailed item descriptions in the future when Lord J's new editor comes out.

-When editing the dialog I put a lot of pauses/delays in the text. From what little I played, sometimes there are tiny bugs with the text being displayed. Also sometimes when I filled a page with text, sometimes the dialog would create a new page ONLY for the ONE word. Also, there may be text which isn't justified right, so after a page of dialog you'll get a completely blank page. I'm pretty sure I fixed all those problems, though. If you see this or similar glitches with the dialog, e-mail me ASAP so I can try and fix it.

-When Lord J works the bugs in his monster script editor, maybe I'll change the enemy AI a little. I especially want to add Czar Dragon's hidden dialog.

-Sky Render's "End Of Fantasy" script.

-Possible tweaks, changes in Dialog, etc that I haven't thought of yet.

FAQ
-------

If you want to e-mail me a question, make sure you read this FAQ to make sure if your question is answered or not. It'll save me a lot of time.

Q: HOW DO I USE THIS PATCH?
A: All you have to do is use your favorite IPS Patching utility (I suggest IPSWin) you could also use SNESTool or ZSNES's auto patching feature. Use this patch on the clean, unhacked version of the AMERICAN FFIII rom ONLY! If you're still having trouble e-mail me. The quickest way you can tell the game is patched is if you start a new game and see the new intro dialog.

Q: WHAT GAVE YOU THE IDEA FOR THIS PATCH?
A: A few things, actually. For one, FFVI is my favorite, and recently so is Final Fantasy Tactics. I finally had an idea that could combine the two. I wanted to make a patch that was different than all those Spoof and Hardtype hacks, one that would stand out among all the rest. This patch is focused on fun and originality, not on Sex-based Humor or Difficulty like most of the others are.

Q: THIS IS COOL! HOW DID YOU DO IT?
A: I used Lord J's FF3us Monster Editor for the bulk of the editing and Yousei's FF3 US Editor (updated by Eizneckam) for editing the Dialog. For misc text editing I used a Rom Text editor called "Thingy" (yes that's what it's called) These could be found at Zophar's Domain (www.zophar.net)

Q: YOU MADE <Insert Monster Here> WAY TOO HARD! HELP!
A: Send me a save state of where you are having a problem. I will determine whether the monster's stats need downgrading or not (because maybe you just need to level up a little more) But in fact when I was first testing out the patch the Narshe Guards were VERY hard and it turned out I had them at something like Lv 26 or something. So it's very possible other monsters have similar mistakes in them. NOTE: I will NOT downgrade or make easier Czar Dragon or Collossus. No matter who asks.

Q: HEY, I HAVE A FFVI/FFT FAN SITE AND I WOULD LIKE TO PUT THIS PATCH ON THERE, CAN I?
A: As long as you e-mail me telling me the link to your site and you give me (Cain Highwind) for credit, you most certainly may!

Q: WILL THIS PATCH SPOIL THE STORY OF FINAL FANTASY TACTICS?
A: Good question. It won't really, there are some minor references to the "Brave Story" (for those who've never played FF Tactics before, this is the "manuscript" of the game's story), and of course use of character names from the game. But there are no actual spoilers of the story, no.

Q: WHO THE **** DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!? THIS PATCH SUCKS!
A: E-mail like this will be ignored, keep your flaming opinions to yourself. I'll only accept and reply to positive and well thought out comments.

Q: I'M A BIG FAN OF FINAL FANTASY TACTICS AS WELL, AND I HAVE SOME GREAT IDEAS FOR YOUR HACK.
A: I would LOVE any suggestions from fellow fans of FFT (or FFVI) for that matter. Comments appreciated too.

Q: ARE YOU GOING TO DO ANY MORE HACKS LIKE THIS FOR ANY OTHER GAMES?
A: I certainly want to, escpecially with Chrono Trigger, since nearly all CT hacks are those lame "Sex Dialog" hacks. I know I'm not the only one whose tired of these. Maybe if certain editors are made that can really give me an edge in editing the game (like I can for FFVI) then, you'll most definetely see them. The next thing I want to try and make is a graphics improvement patch for FFIV (by giving the SNES version the WSC graphics)

Q: YOU'RE WAITING FOR A GBA VERSION OF FINAL FANTASY TACTICS TO COME OUT? HAHAHAHA! LIKE THAT'LL EVER HAPPEN!
A:No really it's coming out, Square officially announced it. It's being worked on by some Ex-Quest employees (the same peeps who brought us Tactics Ogre for the GBA) I've gotten a couple e-mails from people saying they never heard of it. Well it is, and that's why I put this question here.
